How to Stay Mess-Free When DIYing in Your Home


When it comes to DIYing, whether it’s your living room or even just a simple paint job, there’s no doubt about it that it’s going to get messy. No one likes messes; no one likes to even clean up messes. But with that said, they happen during home projects. But it gets to the point where you’re clearly going to want to strive for as little as possible. So, how can you do a successful DIY job with as little cleanup as possible? Well, here is everything that you need to know!


Start By Planning Ahead

When it comes to any project, the first thing you need to do is plan ahead. Of course, you’re already planning all of the materials you need, time, and everything else for the actual project itself, but it’s best to also focus on the clean up too. For some people who like painting know that there’s the potential for paint splatters. 


So they’ll lay out plastic and paint tape on the edges. For others, they might have a general idea of the sheer amount of mess that’s going to be made (like removing a wall), and they’ll instead hire help like Red Dog Dumpsters for something like dumpster rental overall.  In general, try to get an idea, but plan ahead. 


Protect What You Can

So, this is obvious, but it’s best to protect what you can. Your floors are going to have the potential for damage, the walls if you’re painting, and your decor, fragiles too, and the list just goes on and on. So, when it comes to what needs to be protected, think about the best ways to get this done. Try to move what you can try to cover what you can; This is going to be the best thing you can do. 


Invest in Proper Storage

Before you start your project, invest in storage solutions such as bins, shelves, and cabinets to keep tools, materials, and supplies organized and easily accessible. Will this always help? It can, but when it comes to fragiles, it’s best to wrap them up or keep them covered. But if it’s something like mirrors, fragile knick-knacks, or something like that, then try to wrap them up and put them in storage until the renovation is safe. This is mainly due to the fact that there could be a chance for something to fall or break during the renovations itself. So, investing in proper storage and covers is a surefire way to keep it all safe. 


Keep Taking Breaks to Tidy Up

They say that the best way to keep a kitchen clean is to keep cleaning up as you’re cooking; well, why not do that with your DIY? If you do that with your DIY project, then by the time you’re finished, you’re going to have the entire thing looking much better, and you’ll have very minimal cleanup at the end of the day. So, why not tidy up every once in a while? This could be sweeping, removing stains, or moving out large pieces of debris.
