How to Make your Garden More Functional

If you have a garden, it can sometimes be difficult to keep it in tip-top shape. Or, you may have decorated the house, but the garden has stayed the same and, you feel it is time for a change for your garden too. However, you are stumped, unsure of what to do with it, or how to make it work for you? Don’t panic, that is the same case for many people, so read more to get some helpful tips!

Which Plants Should I Use?

This depends on what type of garden you want to create. Do you want a lot of colors all around? Then different shades of flowers would be a must, or maybe you want a minimal and simplistic design, that consists of varied species of grass and small trees, with a light or dark shade of gravel to create a nice walkway. Do you want a water feature? The world of decor and designs for gardens is a big one so try and get an idea in your head before you go ahead and change things. This way, you can hit the ground running and really make a wonderful harden with a consistent theme throughout.

What is the Best Solution if I Have Children?

This a big question. With children, you do not want delicate flowers and plants, at least not all over the garden. It is best to stick to the lawn, as this is easy to maintain and it is very child-friendly. Another alternative could be fake grass, or terf. This is even easier to maintain, as it is fake means no risk of killing it or damaging it with outdoor play equipment like a play structure, slide and more.

Can this be done by Myself?

Once again this is a personal choice. If you have an idea of what you want to do, and it seems like something you could do yourself, then of course! Gardening can be something fun for all the family to do, and it gets your hands dirty and messy and is just a fun activity. However, sometimes some plans or structures require professional assistance, so if this sounds like you then you would need to hire someone to do it for you. It is easy to find people, with the internet you should be able to find someone for an affordable price to come and help you!

To Conclude

Your garden is a living place, full of many different plants, wildlife and more even if you can’t see it. It is also your garden, so should be an extension of who you are. Go wild (no pun intended!) and do what you see fit. Crazy colors, rainbow fences, palm trees, and sand...well, maybe not that mad but you get the idea. Go with your gut and make the garden that you want to be in. If you have children, get the children involved in the process, as it could turn into a lovely family moment together, spending time designing the garden together, as those are real moments that we cherish!
