3 Reasons To Get The Work-Life Balance Right

Writer: JennyJenny

The work-life balance is something we all need to get right. It’s the balance between work and our free time, which could be made up of spending time with friends and family as well as taking part in hobbies and other activities. In other words, it’s what makes people individuals and allows them to be themselves. This aspect of the work-life balance might be the one that gets reduced because work can seem to be so important, but the truth is you need both for a happy, fulfilling life. Here are some of the reasons why that is.

Less Stress

Stress is a very real and very dangerous problem for many people. Working too much and worrying about all the things you need to get done can cause people to feel stressed. Stress is a recognized mental illness, but it also brings with it plenty of physical symptoms, including high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks, ulcers, and more. Reducing stress in life is crucial if you want to be healthy.

One way to reduce stress is to not work so hard and to rectify the issues you might have with your work-life balance. Rather than stressing because your workload is so heavy, taking time out to be with your loved ones, to read a book, to take up exercise, or find a hobby you like will not only reduce your stress and make work less of an overbearing issue in your life, but it will actually make you more productive at work too.

Better Mental Health

One of the main reasons why it’s so crucial to get the work-life balance just right for you is to protect your mental health. When you have the balance right, you will be in a much better place when it comes to dealing with any negative thoughts and emotions that might come your way.

Your brain will be able to work much better when it isn’t clouded by all the work-related problems and thoughts you might be having. The human body just isn’t designed to handle all the stress that we put it under in the 21st century, so taking a step back and doing something more relaxing and fun will help to re-set it and prevent your mental health from becoming strained.

Better Physical Health

A part of the work-life balance that can easily be forgotten and therefore not dealt with is taking the time to look after your physical health. If you are working all the time, you might not give much thought to cooking a delicious meal like Southern recipe potato salad from scratch, preferring instead to grab something quick to put in the microwave or perhaps ordering takeout. If you were working less and able to take more time when it came to choosing and preparing your food, your health would improve.

The same is true of exercise. Working long hours and leaving no time for the gym or a class or even going for a fun or bike ride again means your health is going to suffer, this time in a physical way. Work less and exercise more, and you’ll certainly feel the benefit.
