What Steps can Your Family Take to Become More Energy Efficient Today?

If you feel as though your family aren’t as energy-efficient as they could be then there are steps you can take to try and help your household today. Take a look below to find out more.

Turn Down the Thermostat

First of all, if you want to save money within your home then you need to keep the central heating at a consistent temperature. Turning it down a degree or two is the best thing you can do here. Even though it’s not ideal when you want to stay warm, it can have a dramatic impact on your energy bills. Studies have shown that making small, everyday adjustments can save you a small fortune.

Opt for Solar Panels

If you want to make sure that you are doing your bit for the environment then one thing you can do is get some solar panels installed. It has never been easier for you to get solar panels installed and if you don’t have room for them, you can easily look into a community solar LMI alternative. Of course, solar power is the best way for you to get your energy bills reduced and on top of this, you may find that you can add a significant amount of money to your home’s value.

Stop Leaving Things on Standby

If you walk into any room within your home right now, there is a chance that you will have something plugged in when it doesn’t need to be. If you have a lot of things on standby then this will be draining energy far more than you realize. Energy vampires are very much real and if you are not careful, they can have a huge impact on your bills, so be mindful of that if you can.

Add some wall insulation

Poorly insulated homes tend to lose around a third of their heat through the walls. If you have a detached home then this will lose heat on every side, purely because it’s exposed to the elements. Mid-terraced properties or flats do not lose as much heat as they are more protected but either way, you should take steps to try and add some extra insulation where possible. You can cover it with some plasterwork or some cladding if you want, as this is a great way for you to improve the appearance of your home while putting a focus on energy efficiency.

Insulate your Floor

Did you know that around 10% of the heat in your home is lost through the ground floor? You need to insulate this where possible. There isn’t much of a need for you to insulate the upper floors in your home. If you have a room above a garage or if you have any other type of unheated space then adding insulation could be a good idea. As with the walls, the type of insulation you opt for is paramount. Some homes may have a mixture of tiled, suspended or solid flooring, and you will have to opt for a different type of insulation for each type if you want to maximize the benefits.
