Improving Your Home Exterior

Sometimes we put more effort into the interior of our homes than we do the exterior. We are leaving our gardens to fend for themselves and our outside spaces bland and dull. However, there are so many ways you can freshen up the outside of your home and give yourself a new look house that you will be proud of whenever you pull up in the driveway.

The garden is a great place to start. Particularly if you aren’t usually too creative out there. The garden is an extension of our home, it is our outside living space, and yet many of us don’t put effort into creating something stunning as we do into the living room. The best gardens have various levels, and you can create this even if you have a small space. Define the garden into two levels—one for entertaining and enjoying with friends and family and one for playing. Having a decked level and a grassed area will make your space more functional.

You could even consider an outside kitchen. Pizza ovens are a great addition to the garden and are quite simple to make yourself. Google ‘What Is Stone Veneer’ and see how stunning this alternative to natural stone looks. Alongside decking and some beautiful garden furniture, you will have your own little oasis to relax and unwind in.

Painting your home can seem like a mammoth task, however, if you dedicate a couple of weekends to it, then you can get it done in no time. You need to make sure you prepare the surface well. This means removing all cobwebs and dirt and sanding down any wood. Preparation is key to a lasting finish. A pressure washer will help you with most of the issues, and then a decent hand sander will make light work of any exterior woodwork. There are some fantastic paint systems which spray your house with paint and take a lot of tedious labour out of the job. Of course, if you have the budget then employing someone to do it while you enjoy your new garden, might be a good plan!

Sometimes, it’s the little things that have the most significant impact, so if you don’t have time to paint your whole home, why not consider freshening up your door? You could change the knocker and door furnishings and give it a really good lick of paint. You should also consider how you frame your doorway. Adding hanging baskets or two potted trees either side can be welcoming to guests and show you have pride in your home.

Whatever your budget, there are so many ways you can make the most of the exterior of your house, and you shouldn’t put it off. It’s one of those jobs we all want to do, but the reality of how much effort it may take can lead us to put it off for another time. Small changes can have a massive impact, so get out there and start loving your home!
